Kids are always looking for ways to earn money. When I was a kid, it wasn't unusual to find me mowing lawns, washing cars, or looking for other ways to make money.
Unfortunately, kids can't just go out and get a job, so how do kids earn money when they're too young to get a real job?
Actually, the number of ways that kids can earn money has grown tremendously with the growth of the Internet, but some of the old fashioned ways still work as well. Here are some old fashioned, but still great ways your kids can earn money:
Pay your kids to perform extra chores around the house. Depending on your current allowance/chore system, paying your kids to do extra projects around the house can be a great way to teach them about money and get some housework done at the same time.
Have a lemonade stand! Okay, so this isn't the most creative way for kids to earn extra money, but it's a great way to teach them about supply and demand, the cost of the lemonade vs. how much they can sell it for, and general business concepts. If you have creative kids, you can always substitute the lemonade for something more creative like snow cones, ice cream or baked goods.
Watching younger kids for pay. Hey, babysitting is still a great way for kids to earn extra money. People will always need babysitters, and it's one of the best ways to teach older kids responsibility.
Yard work: people will always need help mowing lawns, shoveling snow or raking leaves. While more people are hiring professional lawn services to do this, there are still a lot of people who are willing to hire a neighborhood kid to do this for them.
Pet sitting and walking dogs: with most families on the go all the time, many pets are left alone all day, and some for days at a time as people go on vacation or travel for business. A great way for kids to earn some extra money is to offer to walk dogs or to even check in on pets while neighbors or family members are away.
